Knowledge November: November 2021

Ok, I’ll come clean - this month is a very short list: one item to be exact. However, Sapiens: A Graphic History is a very dense read that takes time to digest, so it makes sense that it took me most of the month to make my way through it. That being said, I still highly recommend you check it out - who knows - maybe you’ll learn something you never imagined!

Sapiens: A Graphic History Vol. 1, The Birth of Humankind

By: Yuval Noah Harari and David Vandermeulen, Illustrated by: Daniel Casanave

Details: Graphic Novel, Young Adult, Series, Nonfiction, History, 2020

ISBN-13: 978-0063051331

Synopsis: In this first volume, renowned historian Yuval Harari tells the story of humankind’s creation and evolution, exploring the ways in which biology and history have defined us and enhanced our understanding of what it means to be “human.”

My Thoughts: While this book is definitely about the history of human evolution, it takes a very different approach to how we evolved and developed. I’m not sure how it is for everyone, but I took away a lot of new ideas for how our culture, thought processes, and stories have developed, rather than new ideas around the evolution of our physical bodies. I highly recommend checking this book out, although I will warn you that it is a thick book with very thought-provoking concepts, so definitely give yourself time to digest the ideas presented.
